Top Four Attractions in Disneyland's Adventureland

Disneyland, CA. Review of top four attractions.

What to Know Before You Go

Revised 4/2021

As mentioned in my “Disneyland Overview” post, my husband and I visited Disneyland recently to celebrate my sister’s birthday.  Silly lady: she wanted to celebrate her sixtieth with thousands of strangers.  It all good though.  Use any excuse to revisit childhood, I always say.

Note: Follow CDC and park guidelines when visiting.  Always wear your face mask when in public.

However, this revisit to childhood wasn’t quite the exciting time I had envision.  There were definite highs, lows, and disappointments as well.  Here, I share with you my impressions of just one of the seven lands of Disneyland: Adventureland.

Note: Due to Covid, things change daily.  To stay up to date with ride closures, etc., download the official Disneyland App.  As of now, many rides are closed.

Indiana Jones Adventure

By far, my favorite ride in Adventureland is Indiana Jones Adventure.  As a fan of all the movies, I enjoyed the attention to detail from the jeep-like transport to the hieroglyphics in the queue to the movie music during the ride.  I noticed that most of the ride seemed to focus on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.  I suppose that isn’t surprising since much of the movie is played out in caves.  Nevertheless, there were plenty of snake sightings—referencing the first movie.

Enchanted Tiki Room (Show)

Even though this is an old show, as one over sixty I absolutely love it.   The 15-minute show is a nostalgic glance back in time replete with singing birds, flowers and Tiki Gods.  As it can be tiring after trekking through the park for hours, this is a perfect respite for families and us oldsters as guests sit on long benches for the show.  However, even as young as the parents appeared, they seemed to know all the words to the songs.  Me too.  So much fun.

Note: Grab a pineapple ice cream after the show at the Tiki bar)

Jungle Cruise

I was so looking forward to cruising down a manmade tropical river in a large raft with strangers and guided by a joking skipper.  Barely escaping a hippo attack and getting spray with water by an elephant was in my nightly dreams weeks before our Disneyland visit.  Nevertheless, it was closed.  Closed!!  Darn. And this was before Covid!  Darn.

Note: It’s a great option for those seeking silliness and a bit of rest after trekking through the park all day.

Tarzan’s Treehouse

What is more fun for a child than a treehouse?  Rhetorical question.  This particular treehouse is fun for adults who want to relive their childhood as well.  True, it is rather corny and old fashion compared to most attractions found in Universal Orlando.  However, it is still fun—perhaps once.

It really looks like a humongous tree with a house at the top accessible by stairs and a rope bridge.  As I wandered through the treehouse, I read about Tarzan’s life story, ending with him falling in love with Jane.  It is sort of a walk-through storybook, much like Cinderella’s Castle at the front of the park.  There is a lot of “stuff” that appears to be artifacts, so that is a positive.  However, even considering its charm and cute factor, I don’t feel the need to revisit this attraction.  I definitely would consider a revisit if I had children in tow.

Note: Many, many stairs!  In addition, this attraction is a refurbished Swiss Family Robinson’s Tree House and was much better.  Then again, who besides me remembers that story?

Kauai Vacation: Room Review

The Room Over The Power Plant Revised 4/2021 The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas offers guests beautiful rooms, which include kitchens or kitchenettes, outdoor grills, and a number of pools.  Most often, it includes an excellent restaurant, poolside bar, and small store.  A large grocery store is within walking distance as well.  Thus, the theory is that guests will not have to leave the property once they cross the big pond to reach it. Great theory, but that’s not necessarily true when the only on-site restaurant is closed.  Add to that the incredibly loud room...well, let’s just say I needed a break from the property at times.   Note : Follow Hawaii and CDC guidelines when visiting.  Always wear your face mask when in public. May we just see the room we should have had? After an exceptionally long journey that included a broken plane and a rushed connection—not to mention airport security—we were surprised to find that our hotel had our room ready an hour early.

Look Closer at the Hilton Garden Inn, Waikiki

Why We Might Not Return: Hilton Garden Inn, Waikiki My dear polite travelers, Imagine waiting three years to revisit a pleasant memory.  You’d probably be thrilled to be on that journey.  Right?  Well, I am, and ...well, I’m lukewarm to some aspects of it, especially our room: #1537.  But the Ocean is Right There! In our room, #1537, we have the ocean view and the fresh breezes associated with it.  Still, due to the central, otherwise excellent location, it’s noisy—very noisy.  Thus, those breezes remain outside all night.  Darn.  The pleasant sweet-ocean-air-in-our-room-memory I dream of often eluded us on this trip.  Now, it’s just sad. The Good & the Weird Beyond the noise, it is a comfortable room—especially the shower—but there’s not enough counter space.  Instead of a long counter or desk, the hotel designer thought a long built-in seat would be a clever idea??  Hint.  It’s not.  We can only use it to store our suitcases and bulky items.   The only place to us

Sonoma, California: DoubleTree Sonoma

Updated 4/2021 Our Stay in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country in California As over-worked small business owners, we decided to play hooky traveling through Sonoma County for a couple of days.  Since we recently experience excellent service on our last stay in a DoubleTree, we booked a room at their Sonoma Wine Country property in Rohnert Park. Our Journey Through Sonoma County Our drive from our home in Davis pleasant with light traffic.  We chose a slightly longer route through Sonoma so we could take in the beauty of the Glen Ellen area vineyards.  The vineyards here are quite beautiful with green rolling hills as a backdrop.  Arriving at the DoubleTree As we arrived, I mentioned to my husband that since this trip would focus on cheese tasting, it would be perfect if we were given a free upgrade to a room with a refrigerator.  The hotel appeared fully booked, so I assumed that was impossible.   Astonishingly, when we asked about an upgrade, the polite rec
