What to Know Before You Go
As
mentioned in my “Disneyland Overview” post,
my husband and I visited Disneyland recently to celebrate my sister’s
birthday. Silly lady: she wanted to
celebrate her sixtieth
with thousands of strangers. It all good
though. Use any excuse to revisit
childhood, I always say.
Note:
Follow CDC and park guidelines when visiting.
Always wear your face mask when in public.
However,
this revisit to childhood wasn’t quite the exciting time I had envision. There were definite highs, lows, and disappointments
as well. Here, I share with you my
impressions of just one of the seven lands of Disneyland: Adventureland.
Note:
Due to Covid, things change daily. To
stay up to date with ride closures, etc., download the official Disneyland App. As of now, many rides are closed.
Indiana
Jones Adventure
By far, my favorite ride in Adventureland is Indiana Jones Adventure. As a fan of all the movies, I enjoyed the attention to detail from the jeep-like transport to the hieroglyphics in the queue to the movie music during the ride. I noticed that most of the ride seemed to focus on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I suppose that isn’t surprising since much of the movie is played out in caves. Nevertheless, there were plenty of snake sightings—referencing the first movie.
Even
though this is an old show, as one over sixty I absolutely love it. The 15-minute
show is a nostalgic glance back in time replete with singing birds, flowers and
Tiki Gods. As it can be tiring after
trekking through the park for hours, this is a perfect respite for families and
us oldsters as guests sit on long benches for the show. However, even as young as the parents
appeared, they seemed to know all the words to the songs. Me too.
So much fun.
Note: Grab
a pineapple ice cream after the show at the Tiki bar)
I
was so looking forward to cruising
down a manmade tropical river in a large raft with strangers and guided by a
joking skipper. Barely escaping a hippo
attack and getting spray with water by an elephant was in my nightly dreams
weeks before our Disneyland visit.
Nevertheless, it was closed.
Closed!! Darn.
Note:
It’s a great option for those seeking silliness and a bit of rest after
trekking through the park all day.
Tarzan’s
Treehouse
What
is more fun for a child than a treehouse?
Rhetorical question. This
particular treehouse is fun for adults who want to relive their childhood as
well. True, it is rather corny and old
fashion compared to most attractions found in Universal Orlando. However, it is still fun—perhaps once.
It
really looks like a humongous tree with a house at the top accessible by stairs
and a rope bridge. As I wandered through
the treehouse, I read about Tarzan’s life story, ending with him falling in
love with Jane. It is sort of a
walk-through storybook, much like Cinderella’s Castle at the front of the
park. There is a lot of “stuff” that
appears to be artifacts, so that is a positive.
However, even considering its charm and cute factor, I don’t feel the
need to revisit this attraction. I
definitely would consider a revisit if I had children in tow.
Note:
Many, many stairs! In addition, this
attraction is a refurbished Swiss Family Robinson’s Tree House and was much
better. Then again, who besides me
remembers that story?
