Dear Polite Traveler,
If
you’ve read my review on this Hilton you know we
needed a break, as many do, from the stress of last year. So, we traveled eight hours from our home in
Northern California to stay in the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. And it is indeed beachfront. Pacific Ocean breezes soothed me into a calm
I’m still enjoying.
Friendly
faces awaited us at the extremely busy registration desk. Not surprising since it was after 4
O’clock. Since we’re Honors Members a
lovely young person offered us the typical room upgrade and handed us bottles
of water and drink coupons.
Note
The
Daily $30 Resort Charge includes internet access for 2 devices, 2-hour bicycle
rental; a glass of house wine (2 adults), 2 bottles of water available daily at
front desk and a 20% discount on Spa services and tennis clinics.
Room #491 Bougainvillea Building
There
are eight buildings full of rooms in this complex. We were assigned to the Bougainvillea
building with a garden view. The
garden/landscape is gorgeous, by the way.
Upgrading to an ocean or partial ocean view is pricy and not
advantageous for us. So, our choice worked out well.
Room
#491 was an excellent choice as we had a partial ocean and full garden view—the best
of all worlds. We could smell the
jasmine the entire time our sliding door was open. Heaven.
Most
all of what one would expect in a luxury resort was in the room: desk, couch,
comfy bed, small fridge, television, iron, coffee pot. But was lacking in one key element: the
microwave. What? No microwave?
Nope. None. This normally wouldn’t be such a big deal,
but I love sipping tea when in my room and there was no electric kettle to warm
water either. So I warmed my water in
small amounts with the coffee maker, which wasn’t as bad as usual. Typically, the tea has a coffee flavor when
filtered through these. I was lucky this
time.
Not
a huge problem.
Bed
The
bed was comfy but didn’t feel new or recently rotated. We both felt indentions with a side of
lumps. Still, not bad, just slightly
noticeable. Conversely, the bed sheets
and comforter were excellent. I slept
well.
Shower
Loved
it! The shower was excellent. Its barn-style door, smooth shower pan and rain shower head filled me with envy. I
want it. Seriously. Want it.
Bathroom
Mirroring
the amazing, envy-inducing shower, the remainder of the bathroom was
comfortable and on the minimalist, contemporary side. A sink with a long counter lined a walk
leading to the bathroom. Inside was
another smaller counter with a sink and the typical toilet to the side. Turn and fall in love with the SHOWER! Did I mention I love the shower?
