Revised 4/2021
On a road trip,
what does a person really need in a motel?
I suppose the answer begins with “It depends.” The populace is typically satisfied with the
standard room consisting of a clean room, clean bed, ample bathroom, and a
television. Nevertheless, it’s always
great to have extras thrown in at no extra cost, such as free Wi-Fi and free
breakfast. Fold in an in-room microwave,
coffee maker, and minifridge and I’m not ready to leave the next
morning. Well, this is what my husband
and I experienced when we stayed at the Quality Inn Santa Ynez Valley located in the small town of Buellton.
Note: Follow CDC guidelines when visiting. Always wear your face mask when in public.
Our Comfy Room
As I mentioned above, our inexpensive room included a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator. Reflecting a recent renovation, it was also squeaky clean and appeared new. The bed was divine. Besides the room extras, this motel also offers free coffee and tea (including herbal teas) 24/7. I was in heaven drinking my mint tea after a hot shower in a roomy step-in shower.
Breakfast
Most motels in
this category include a free breakfast.
The quality varies from motel to motel, even in the same chain. That said, this hot breakfast was excellent
for the typical buffet-style affair. Breakfast
included: eggs, bacon, sausage, pancake machine, waffle maker, cereal, yogurt, typical
pastries (danish, muffins, toast, bagel), and milk, coffee, and various juices
and teas.”
Staff
Everyone from the
front desk to housekeeping to the breakfast room attendant was attentive and
proficient. Upon our early arrival, the
front desk attendant ensured a room was ready within an hour. The attendants in the morning were friendly
and appeared truly interested in each guest.
The breakfast attendant was scurrying around the room at top speed
ensuring that everyone had the best experience possible.
Quirky
The only “Gee,
this is strange” issue we had, involved the shower. The room was handicap accessible, which is
commendable. However, because of this,
there was no shelf for soap or shampoo.
It would seem that even those in wheelchairs would need a shelf for
showering necessities.
