Hotel Review: Comfort Inn, Williams, Arizona

Comfort Inn Near Grand Canyon

Stay and Rest Comfortably in The Comfort Inn Near Grand Canyon

Revised 4/2021

When driving hundreds of miles each day, a quiet place to lay one’s head is heaven on earth.  With that in mind, I was a bit concerned about our future stay in a hotel so near the Grand Canyon.  What if a group of rowdy young men settled in next door or a baby cried all night?  After all, I slept so little the night before in a noisy room in our last motel choice—Quality Inn on Historic Route 66 in Barstow.  Sigh.

Well, I was about to be surprised!

Note: Please follow CDC and state guidelines to be safe from Covid.  Always wear your mask.

Our Greeting

Since I was so tired from my sleepless night before, all I could think about was to race to the next hotel room, shower, and jump into bed.  Unfortunately, it was only 3 pm when we arrived, which meant our room was not ready.  The receptionist was very gracious about our room condition and offered restaurant options with directions stating that our room would be ready when we returned.  She was very personable, asking questions about where we were from and why we were visiting.  She offered quite a bit of advice based on our answers.  I was very impressed.

Our Room

I was not expecting the Ritz or anything even close.  However, I do not think I’d be more comfortable if it was.  The room was more like a mini-suite, complete with a fridge, microwave, desk and comfy couch. 4.4 / 5

The bed was king size and very comfortable, as were the pillows.  The bath was not huge, but well-appointed, clean, and adequate.

Since I was exhausted, we decided to opt-out of a restaurant meal.  Instead, we grabbed a bottle of wine, some nuts, and a deli sandwich to go to share in our lovely suite.  Dining in this type of comfort, in front of a big television after driving hundreds of miles was priceless.  Of course, the silence enabling the best sleep-in days was precious as well.

The Free Breakfast

One of the things, I love about Comfort Inns is the free breakfast.  This particular hotel offered an amazing breakfast.  We had hot options, like scrambled eggs, sausage and waffles.  There was also an option for toast, English muffins, and various pastries.  Of course, there were the ubiquitous cereals.  However, what surprised me the most was the choice of yogurts.  I was in breakfast heaven.

Throughout our short time in the dining area—of which there were two—the staff was busy maintaining the area ensuring the hot food stayed hot and the room was clean.  This is one well-trained staff.  Bravo.

The Amenities

Most of the amenities are common to hotel/motels one finds when traveling—in-room coffee, hairdryer, free parking, etc.  What surprised me with this Comfort Inn was the inside heated pool and spa.  While I didn’t partake, I did visit the room and found it intriguing.  A family was enjoying it while snow fell outside—nice.

I also enjoyed the inside corridors.  When the weather is cold and I am tired, having the option to walk to my room without fighting the elements is golden.

Notes: This hotel is on the outskirts of the quaint, small town of Williams, right off highway 40.  A Safeway is a few blocks from the hotel where we found the wine and our made-to-order sandwich.  They also have a Starbucks.  My fav.

Kauai Vacation: Room Review

The Room Over The Power Plant Revised 4/2021 The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas offers guests beautiful rooms, which include kitchens or kitchenettes, outdoor grills, and a number of pools.  Most often, it includes an excellent restaurant, poolside bar, and small store.  A large grocery store is within walking distance as well.  Thus, the theory is that guests will not have to leave the property once they cross the big pond to reach it. Great theory, but that’s not necessarily true when the only on-site restaurant is closed.  Add to that the incredibly loud room...well, let’s just say I needed a break from the property at times.   Note : Follow Hawaii and CDC guidelines when visiting.  Always wear your face mask when in public. May we just see the room we should have had? After an exceptionally long journey that included a broken plane and a rushed connection—not to mention airport security—we were surprised to find that our hotel had our room ready an hour early.

Look Closer at the Hilton Garden Inn, Waikiki

Why We Might Not Return: Hilton Garden Inn, Waikiki My dear polite travelers, Imagine waiting three years to revisit a pleasant memory.  You’d probably be thrilled to be on that journey.  Right?  Well, I am, and ...well, I’m lukewarm to some aspects of it, especially our room: #1537.  But the Ocean is Right There! In our room, #1537, we have the ocean view and the fresh breezes associated with it.  Still, due to the central, otherwise excellent location, it’s noisy—very noisy.  Thus, those breezes remain outside all night.  Darn.  The pleasant sweet-ocean-air-in-our-room-memory I dream of often eluded us on this trip.  Now, it’s just sad. The Good & the Weird Beyond the noise, it is a comfortable room—especially the shower—but there’s not enough counter space.  Instead of a long counter or desk, the hotel designer thought a long built-in seat would be a clever idea??  Hint.  It’s not.  We can only use it to store our suitcases and bulky items.   The only place to us

Sonoma, California: DoubleTree Sonoma

Updated 4/2021 Our Stay in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country in California As over-worked small business owners, we decided to play hooky traveling through Sonoma County for a couple of days.  Since we recently experience excellent service on our last stay in a DoubleTree, we booked a room at their Sonoma Wine Country property in Rohnert Park. Our Journey Through Sonoma County Our drive from our home in Davis pleasant with light traffic.  We chose a slightly longer route through Sonoma so we could take in the beauty of the Glen Ellen area vineyards.  The vineyards here are quite beautiful with green rolling hills as a backdrop.  Arriving at the DoubleTree As we arrived, I mentioned to my husband that since this trip would focus on cheese tasting, it would be perfect if we were given a free upgrade to a room with a refrigerator.  The hotel appeared fully booked, so I assumed that was impossible.   Astonishingly, when we asked about an upgrade, the polite rec
